Renting versus buying isn't really a lifestyle debate it's a math problem with a few variables that change the answer more than any opinion does.
The single biggest factor is time horizon. Under three to four years in one place, transaction costs on a purchase usually outweigh any equity gained. Beyond that, ownership tends to pull ahead.
Current lending rates change the breakeven point year to year, so the right answer in 2024 isn't automatically the right answer now. Run the comparison against today's numbers, not last year's assumptions.
If you do buy, treat the first few years as building equity, not extracting profit. Property wealth compounds slowly and rewards patience over timing.
